Transformation + Growth as an Illustrator
You know that rushing feeling you sometimes get that almost feels like a panic attack when you suddenly realize you need to make a big change in your life or in the way you're doing some particular thing?
A few weeks ago, I started to realize that I was starting to take interest in drawing new things like animals, food, beauty and spiritual illustrations. I have no idea why this came up as such a rush, but I guess I felt like I had been doing something wrong by not incorporating these elements that I love into my work.
So, instead of freaking out, I decided to instead meditate. A lot. Funny enough, meditation not only gave me energy to work non-stop for about 4 days in a row but it also gave me much clarity and helped me to relax in a stressful time.
To some, this may not seem like a big deal, but when you've been working so hard to brand your work a certain way for such a long time, it can be pretty scaring to start shifting gears a little bit.
Thankfully, the response I got was incredible.
In my meditations, I pictured the moon and the stars, the love I felt and the support I had from those around me. I began drawing these night scenes with family, love, reflection and an overall feeling of elevated spirit. These three illustrations marked the beginning of my new journey, my growth, development and a new chapter for my work. I'm so excited.
This new feeling of openness meant I could finally film my first Youtube video and talk about what I was going through and how other creatives can find coping mechanism for when this happens instead of relying on others to carry them through.
Overall, I think it's important to embrace growth & change, no matter what your career is or which area you are seeking change. Being uncomfortable means feeling alive! It's important to take risks and pursue what your heart is telling you to. Life isn't meant to be easy, it isn't meant to fall into place, you need to make it happen and trust that your intuition will get you there. :)
